New York Athletic Trainer honored with christmas tree lighting

Meg Greiner, Hendrick Hudson’s Athletic Trainer, was given the honor of lighting the Christmas tree at the Cortlandt Engine Company’s firehouse in Montrose over the weekend.

Greiner was selected for the special honor because of her long history of helping athletes in the district and her many charitable efforts, including raising money – approximately $7,500 – for Support Connection, the Susan G. Komen Foundation and Friends of Jacquelyn.

“I was truly honored and humbled to be chosen to light the Christmas tree during the Cortlandt Engine Company’ s annual tree lighting,” said Greiner. “It was a wonderful night for our entire community.”

Select members from Hendrick Hudson High School’s singing group, the Treble Makers, were also on hand for the tree-lighting ceremony. The students entertained the crowd with their vocal renditions of “Angels We Have Heard On High,” “Deck The Halls,” “Jingle Bells,” “Joy To The World” and “We Wish You A Merry Christmas.”

The Treble Makers, directed by the district’s Director of Choral and Vocal Music Erica Denler, have been part of the tree lighting ceremony in Montrose for the past eight years.

“The Treble Makers act as ambassadors to the community,” Denler. “During the holidays, they perform throughout the community, at tree lighting ceremonies, fairs, parties and restaurants.”

The group, a highly selective choir at the high school, has received the prestigious designation from the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) as an ensemble that is rated “Gold with Distinction.”
