Indiana High School Gets New Athletic Trainer

Dearborn County Hospital is now providing the services of an Athletic Trainer to Switzerland County High School.  Jennifer Bostic, LAT/ATC, is covering both boys’ and girls’ high school games and practices.

A high school Athletic Trainer provides healthcare services to student athletes under the direction of physicians/medical directors.  These services include injury prevention, emergency care, clinical diagnoses, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.

Mrs. Bostic is at the high school 20 hours a week for its games and practices.  The agreement between DCH and the Switzerland County School Corporation to provide high school Athletic Trainer services at no cost to the school went into effect on December 1.  Orthopaedic Surgeons Robert Rolf, M.D., and David Argo, M.D., of Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine are the school’s Co-Medical Directors.

“There were numerous reasons for Switzerland County High School and Dearborn County Hospital to work together for the benefit of our young athletes,” Mrs. Bostic explained.  “Most significantly, this is the first year the high school has had a boys’ varsity football team.  The school has fielded freshmen and junior varsity teams in recent years, but the addition of varsity football signaled an increased need for an Athletic Trainer.”

Mrs. Bostic knows the school well, since she graduated from there in 1989.  “It’s wonderful working at Switzerland County High School,” she said.  “It’s like returning home.”

After she finished high school, Mrs. Bostic studied at Franklin College south of Indianapolis, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology with a minor in athletic training.  For 22 years, she was employed by King’s Daughters Hospital as an Athletic Trainer and visited SCHS for an hour and a half each week.

The name Bostic may be familiar to you, as her husband, Noel Bostic, is Principal and Athletic Director of Rising Sun High School.  The Bostics live in Rising Sun and have three daughters, Ali, 20; Bailee, 18; and Sydney, 14.

Dearborn County Hospital and Beacon Orthopaedics also provide their collaborative sports medicine services to Milan, Rising Sun and South Dearborn High Schools at no cost to them.
