The Blackhawk School Board voted Thursday to name the district’s high school and middle school athletic training facility after former board president and district athletic trainer Richard Clare McMillen.
The Richard Clare McMillen Training Facility will honor McMillen, an athletic trainer for Blackhawk’s football and basketball teams for 33 years, who died Dec. 27, 2015, at age 81.
The board’s Jan. 14 meeting began with a moment of silence for McMillen. The athletic trainer had become a Blackhawk community “icon” who “touched thousands upon thousands” of young athletes over the years, board member Clint Berchtold said.
McMillen donated the equipment and materials for the training facility, many of which are still in use today, Berchtold said.
