Santa Clarita School District to Hire Athletic Trainers

The William S. Hart Union High School District announced  a partnership between the William S. Hart Union High School District and Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital to bring a Certified Athletic Trainer to each of the six comprehensive high schools within the district.  The agreement was signed by Roger Seaver, President of Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, and Vicki Engbrecht, Superintendent of the district.
The athletic trainers – which will be at Canyon, Golden Valley, Hart, Saugus, Valencia and West Ranch high schools – will be tasked with providing initial medical attention, should an injury occur to an athlete, as well as monitor state mandated protocols of rehabilitation before the athlete is cleared to return to play.  The athletic trainers will report directly to doctors and medical personnel with the hospital.
“The safety and health of Hart district students is our No. 1 priority,” Engbrecht said.  “And so we do everything we can to create a safe environment for our student athletes.”
Approximately 5,000 student athletes compete in 17 sports within the Hart district.  By nature of competing in sports, every single one of them is at risk of being injured.
“We can’t thank Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital enough for providing us an opportunity to fill a need we probably would not have been able to do on our own,” Engbrecht added.  “Having a Certified Athletic Trainer at each of our six comprehensive high schools will not only help to ensure the health and safety of our student athletes, but ensure their recovery and return is following proper protocols.”
The interview process has already begun, with the six athletic trainers expected to be in place at the time of publication.
