Kingsville Athletic Trainers Receive Lone Star Recognition

The Lone Star Conference released its annual student athletic training academic award recipients and Texas A&M University-Kingsville featured three athletic trainers as Monica Valdez, Jessica Johnson and Marco Regalado all received the distinction.

All three were graduate students. Valdez is the assistant athletic trainer for outreach and is in her fourth year with the Javelinas. The Alice native received her master’s in guidance and counseling in December 2015. Johnson is in her second year at Texas A&M-Kingsville and along with working outreach with Valdez, works primarily with softball. A Zapata native, Regalado was a student athletic trainer for the Javelinas and is now the assistant defensive line coach under Ronnie Palmer.

To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student athletic trainers must have at least a 3.30 grade point average with a minimum of 24 semester hours at the nomination institution. The award also rewards student athletic trainers who assist with the operation of the athletic training office. A total of 33 student athletic trainers received the conference honor.
