Dunlap is Promoted to Assistant Athletic Director

Western New Mexico University head athletic trainer Terra Dunlap has received a promotion. She will begin to assume the duties of assistant athletic director immediately.

“The biggest thing is that Terra was already performing some of the duties as an athletic director and she deserved to have the title,” WNMU director of athletics Mark Coleman said. “She will follow that role in dealing with some of the administrative issues on the women’s and some men’s teams. She deserved this promotion.”

Dunlap has been the head trainer since 2010 and shortly after added the title of Senior Woman Administrator in 2011. She was an assistant volleyball coach back in 2007.

“I was very surprised,” Dunlap said. “But, I am excited to move into the administrator role. I do a lot with those duties with my Senior Woman Administrator position and that’s going to fit right in. I will be able to make decisions now based on this and I’m excited to continue to work with coach Coleman and have a voice in the athletic department.”

Dunlap graduated from the movement science program and wore a Mustang volleyball jersey from 1996-2000. She was on the Gold Honor board each semester and was named to the Pac-West All-Conference Academic Team in 1999.

After graduating from WNMU, Dunlap attended Montana State University-Billings where she received her Master of Science in Athletic Training degree in 2006. She was also an assistant volleyball coach for the Yellow Jackets for a season.

“Terra has already had her plate full and has gone back for seconds without finishing her first one,” Coleman said. “Being a full time trainer she puts in countless hours especially during football season. We can’t afford to lose her and she is already so entrenched into the community. She does so much for this university and people don’t know.”
