Kelli Polizzi Named Head Athletic Trainer at Cumberland University

Cumberland director of athletics Ron Pavan announced the hiring of Kelli Polizzi as head athletic trainer, with Polizzi beginning work last week on campus.

She brings more than 13 years of experience in the areas of evaluation, assessment and rehabilitation in the athletic training field.

Polizzi has spent the previous year as an assistant athletic trainer at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan., overseeing the softball and men’s and women’s soccer programs for evaluation, assessment, rehabilitation and documentation of injuries. She also served as a part-time faculty member in the ATEP and Health, Wellness and Exercise Science Department.

The Monroe City, Mo., native worked two years in her second stint at Progressive Rehabilitation Associates in Iowa City, Iowa, covering local high school athletic events and making weekly school visits to assess and evaluate as well as document injuries. She ran training sessions for area businesses and factories, educating on employee triage for industrial settings, and wrote essential function profiles for statewide businesses.

Polizzi spent one year as Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill., covering men’s and women’s cross country and track and field along with men’s and women’s tennis. She was in charge of care and prevention, assessment, evaluation and rehabilitation of injuries as well as documenting injuries and treatment.
