Gary Rundles, Brad Montgomery and Tina Langley have been selected for induction into the University of West Alabama Athletics Hall of Fame, according to an announcement today by Hall of Fame Chairman Dee Outlaw.

The trio will officially be inducted on Oct. 8 during UWA Homecoming weekend activities and will serve as honorary game captains when the Tigers are host to Delta State at 4 p.m. that day.

Rundles, Montgomery and Langley increases the number of UWA Athletics hall of famers to 72. Langley is the seventh formal female student-athlete to earn induction. The first Hall of Fame group were inducted in 1981.

“I am proud, pleased and very happy with our new members of the UWA Athletic Hall of Fame,” Outlaw said. “I believe the selection committee did another outstanding job.  The Hall of Fame welcomes these three wonderful representatives of our University.”

The UWA HOF was founded to honor former student-athletes, coaches, students and administrators who honored the university with outstanding play, coaching or leadership, both while on campus and in their careers. There is a five-year waiting period for former UWA student-athletes and coaches to be inducted. There is no waiting period for administrators.

The 2015 trio of inductees will serve as grand marshals for the 2016 Homecoming Parade and will be officially inducted in the Hall of Fame at the Annual National Alumni Association Meeting on Oct. 8.

Langley, who played women’s basketball at UWA from 1994 to 1996, is currently in her second season as the head women’s basketball coach at Rice University. Prior to that she served as associate head coach at Maryland for seven years, where the Terrapins rang up a 195-49 record over that time. Other coaching stops include Clemson, Georgia and Toledo. She has been a part of national titles and two NCAA Final Four teams.

Montgomery currently serves as UWA’s head athletic trainer and joins his wife, UWA associate AD and senior women’s administrator Janet Montgomery, in the UWA Hall of Fame. In 25 years in the University of West Alabama Athletic Training and Sports Medicine program, Montgomery has advanced from graduate assistant to his current position as head athletic trainer in 1998.

Montgomery is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and a licensed athletic trainer by the state of Alabama. Montgomery also serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Education and Athletic Training as well as a Preceptor in the CAATE accredited athletic training program. In 2015, he was inducted into the Alabama Athletic Trainers’ Association Hall of Fame.

He is a 1989 graduate of the University of North Alabama with a B.S. in Physical Education and Biology, later earning an M.A.T. in Physical Education from UWA in 1992.

The 2017 season will be Rundles 17th as West Alabama’s head baseball coach. Rundles has coached 1,503 games as a collegiate head coach. He is 539-315 in 16 years at West Alabama and 911-592 in 29 years as a college head coach at both UWA and Carson Newman.
