Therrien joins Gonzaga Athletics from Oregon State University and will oversee the day-to-day operations of the athletic training room and serve as the primary athletic trainer for Men’s Basketball and Men’s Rowing.
“We are very excited to have Josh join us as our new Head Athletic Trainer,” said Bill Drake, Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Health and Wellness. “Josh will carry on a great tradition established in this position by Steve DeLong and Jennifer Nyland. Josh’s experience includes working for the last eight years in competitive Division I programs with winning traditions. His work ethic, professional calm demeanor and desire for excellence will fit well with Gonzaga Athletics. I know he and his wife Jill are excited to be back in the heart of the Northwest and join the Gonzaga family.”
At Oregon State, Therrien served as an assistant athletic trainer for the last six seasons for the Beavers’ baseball team with secondary coverage for OSU football. His experience with the baseball program has also led him to serve as the head athletic trainer for USA Baseball’s U18 and Collegiate National Teams in 2011, 2012 and 2015. While working for OSU, he also was on the health oversight and student-athlete welfare committees, while also being the staff liaison for orthopedic surgeons.
Prior to his full-time position at OSU in 2010, Therrien was a graduate assistant for the Beavers for two years beginning in 2008, in which he worked with the football, baseball and men’s golf teams. During that appointment, he earned his Master of Science in Exercise Science in June 2010.
Therrien began his athletic training career as a student at Washington State University in 2005, where he went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in December 2007.
