James Joins the Athletic Training Staff at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) athletic training department has added Chrissy James to the staff, Dr. Lee McElroy, director of athletics, has announced. James is one of seven athletic trainers at Rensselaer, a staff led by Chris Thompson.

A native of Valatie, N.Y., James earned a bachelor of science degree in athletic training with a minor in health science from Springfield College in May. She has experience working with collegiate men’s and women’s programs, including the Springfield men’s basketball and women’s volleyball teams as well as the Western New England University women’s lacrosse team. James also served on the medical services team at an NCAA Wrestling Regional Championship and the Nutmeg State Games Holiday Basketball Tournament. She volunteered with the Special Olympics and the Hartford Marathon and also gained experience while working with students and teams at Fermi High School and Loomis Chaffee School.

During her senior year at Springfield, James held an internship in the Baystate Medical Center emergency department, where she observed physicians, and served as an aide in an orthopedic clinical assessment lab, helping instruct athletic training students. She is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and she attended the Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association convention in January.

A Dean’s List student, James was a President Achievers Scholarship recipient and she presented on Scholars in Action Day on multiple occasions. The Ichabod Crane High School graduate played one year of basketball team at Springfield, where she was also a member of the weightlifting club and a participant in Humanics in Action Day, a campus-wide day of community service. James served as a student ambassador and was involved in the Student Society for Bridging Diversity during which there were discussions of multicultural issues on campus and in society.
