Texas Rangers and San Patricio County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a Taft ISD athletic trainer Wednesday on suspicion of an improper relationship between an educator and a child as well as sexual assault of a child.

Salvador Diaz, 28, turned himself in to authorities Wednesday afternoon at the San Patricio County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Leroy Moody said.

He said the Texas Rangers had two arrest warrants for Diaz.

Diaz, who has worked as an athletic trainer at Taft Independent School District for about six years, resigned from the district Tuesday, Superintendent Chad Kelly said.

Diaz was released Thursday from the San Patricio County Jail on $20,000 bail, jail officials said.
