Carson-Newman Athletic Trainer Brwyan Campbell has been named the recipient of the Tennessee Athletic Trainers’ Society’s Eugene Smith/Mickey O’Brien College Athletic Trainer of the Year.

Campbell, now in his fifth year on the Carson-Newman Sports Medicine staff, is responsible for the care of Carson-Newman’s women’s soccer, men’s basketball and tennis teams.

“Brwyan is the guy on our staff who’s the calming force in the athletic training clinic,” Director of Sports Medicine Mike Van Bruggen said. “He makes everything run smoothly and efficiently. He’s extremely deserving of this award and I’m proud to call him a colleague and friend.”

Campbell is an alumnus of Carson-Newman’s ATEP and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training in 2008.

Campbell is the second straight C-N trainer honored by TATS. Becky Cate was presented with the Backbone Award in 2015.

Campbell joins Van Bruggen as recipients of the College Trainer of the Year. Van Bruggen won the award in 2009.
