Mikaela Shelby has been added to the Athletic Training staff as an Assistant Athletic Trainer for the 2017-18 academic year, Head Athletic Trainer Christine Scuderi announced on Thursday.

Shelby joins the Roos after completing her Master’s degree in Athletic Training at Bridgewater State University. While completing her degree she also worked for Bay State Physical Therapy in Brockton, Massachusetts where she was a rehabilitation aide for a wide population of patients in an out-patient clinic setting. Shelby was named the Graduate Athletic Training Student of the Year at Bridgewater State.

“I am excited to bring Mikaela on board for the upcoming season,” Scuderi said. “Her clinical experiences along with her educational experiences in athletic training will be a valuable asset in our department as we look to provide the best possible care for our student-athletes.”

Shelby has clinical experiences in a variety of areas including with the Boston Conservatory, Bridgewater State and Dean College’s Joan Palladino School of Dance. At Boston Conservatory she self-established a personalized clinical rotation within the Sports Medicine clinic and treated high-level performing artists during rehearsals and performances. At Bridgewater she treated student-athletes in various sports and at the Joan Palladino School of Dance she observed, assessed and evaluated dance students to help prevent injuries.

“After recently graduating from my Master’s program, I am thrilled to be part of the SUNY Canton Athletic Training team,” Shelby said. “I am grateful to begin my career here and to be treating the Roo student-athletes.”

Shelby is National Athletic Training Association (NATA) Board certified along with carrying certifications in EMT-B, CPR-AED, Blood-Borne Pathogens and is a Heads Up Clinician.
