Arrielle Luna has been named Athletic Trainer at Coronado High School

Arrielle Luna, who graduated from Coronado High School in 2008 has been named Athletic Trainer at the school. She replaces Connie Martinez Anaya, who will remain at the school and continue to teach her popular Sports Medicine Class and to be the faculty advisor for the on-campus club called Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA).

Luna earned six athletic letters at CHS, including four in basketball and two in golf. She went on to play basketball for Chapman University in the very competitive Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Luna majored in athletic training while at Chapman. She said of the experience, “Part of that was working with lacrosse, softball and a couple of junior colleges and high schools in the area. I kept busy.” Later Luna served as the assistant athletic trainer at CHS under Anaya in 2013-14 and during the 2014-15 school year Luna worked as head trainer for Atascadero High School, located near San Luis Obispo. Interestingly the high school’s colors are orange and gray and ‘Greyhounds’ is the nickname of the school’s sports teams.

Luna is one of four daughters of Carl Luna and Jeanne Luna of Coronado. The four sisters are Delaney, Arrielle, Rhiannon and Jacqueline. Carl, who has a PhD in political science, teaches at USD, San Diego Mesa College and Point Loma High School.

Luna explained her decision to return to Coronado. “My family lives in Coronado and the city has always been a big draw to me. The school has given so much to me academically and that was where I started my professional career. I want to give back to the community that has given me a lot. I enjoy being able to work outside and with a variety of sports. I have always enjoyed sports, being part of them, and helping kids with injuries. I love helping people while still being able to enjoy myself. I want to thank my family for being so supportive and to the high school for allowing me to come back and help out.”
