Head Certified Athletic Trainer Artie Poitras has announced the addition of Casey MacNeil (MA, ATC, LAT) to the UMass Lowell Athletic Healthcare staff on Thursday afternoon. MacNeil will work with the Field Hockey and Men’s Lacrosse programs after spending the previous year at Long Island University-Post.

“We are excited to welcome Casey to the athletic healthcare team,” said Poitras. “Her experiences both as a student-athlete and athletic trainer with one of the premier lacrosse programs in the country, coupled with her understanding of UMass Lowell, its mission and its student-athletes, separated her from a talented applicant pool.  We look forward to her skills complementing those of our other Athletic Healthcare staff members in providing quality healthcare to all of our student-athletes.”

While at LIU-Post MacNeil served as an assistant athletic trainer, her primary sports were men’s lacrosse, swimming and women’s soccer. She also acted as a preceptor for student trainers and supervised the LIU masters’ athletic trainers.

“I’d like to thank everyone at UMass Lowell for welcoming me, especially Artie Poitras and the athletic healthcare staff,” remarked MacNeil. “I am excited to be here and grow with this amazing staff and program.”

The Merrimack alum served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer with the men’s lacrosse program at Johns Hopkins University from 2013-2015, and as the head trainer with the women’s basketball and volleyball teams. MacNeil earned her master’s degree in sports-exercise psychology from Argosy University during the same span.

Prior to her stint in Baltimore, MacNeil performed as an intern as Salem High School in Salem, N.H., was a volunteer training student at the Bay State Games and an athletic training student at Merrimack.

The Waltham, Mass. native earned her bachelor of science in athletic training in 2013, and was also a member of the Warriors’ women lacrosse program. MacNeil was the team’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative and senior captain.
