The South Atlantic Conference Athletic Trainers Committee has named Mars Hill Head Athletic Trainer Allen Shelley and his staff as the 2015-16 Athletic Training Staff of the Year, the League announced today.

“Congratulations to Allen Shelley and the entire Mars Hill athletic training staff for being honored with this award by their peers,” South Atlantic Conference Commissioner Patrick Britz added. “The entire conference is extremely appreciative of the dedication and passion all of the athletic trainers in the league possess toward ensuring the health and safety of the student-athletes.”

Shelley is in his 23rd year at Mars Hill and leads a staff that emphasizes the importance of wellness in each of its 23 intercollegiate athletic teams, seeing to it that each team has what it needs to compete successfully in the South Atlantic Conference and the NCAA Division II level.  In addition to administering care for Mars Hill’s NCAA sponsored student-athletes, his staff also provides for the well-being of Mars Hill’s National Champion cycling teams. The Athletic Training Staff and Faculty also supervise Undergraduate Athletic Training Students within the MHU Athletic Training Education Program.

“First, I would like to thank our dedicated staff and students,” said Shelly.  “I admire their enthusiasm and the manner in which they provide care to our student athletes. Secondly, I would like to say thank you to the very professional and inspiring fellow SAC athletic training staffs that we are so fortunate to have as colleagues. It is always very humbling to be recognized by your peers. Lastly, I would like to express my appreciation for our administration and their continued support of our program. This support demonstrates their concern for the health and safety of our student athletes.”
