Bennett Joins Cumberland Athletic Training Staff

Cumberland director of athletic training Katie Arnold announced the hiring of Tyler Bennett as a full-time assistant this week.

Bennett will work with football and track and field.

He was a graduate assistant at Tennessee Tech, assisting the head athletic trainer with football for the Golden Eagles, including athlete care, injury prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation. He scheduled office appointments for injured student-athletes with the team physician and assisted with pre-participation physicals and student-athlete drug testing as well as packing travel trunks and field set-up at away football games.

He also was responsible for covering men’s tennis home matches and out-of-season coverage for women’s soccer practices and matches at TTU.

Bennett was a student trainer at Kent State, working with football as a senior and also covering KSU track and field and gymnastics. He also served as a student trainer during events at Solon and Northwest Canal Fulton High School along with the Akron General Outpatient Rehabilitation Clinic.

Kelli Polizzi Named Head Athletic Trainer at Cumberland University

Cumberland director of athletics Ron Pavan announced the hiring of Kelli Polizzi as head athletic trainer, with Polizzi beginning work last week on campus.

She brings more than 13 years of experience in the areas of evaluation, assessment and rehabilitation in the athletic training field.

Polizzi has spent the previous year as an assistant athletic trainer at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan., overseeing the softball and men’s and women’s soccer programs for evaluation, assessment, rehabilitation and documentation of injuries. She also served as a part-time faculty member in the ATEP and Health, Wellness and Exercise Science Department.

The Monroe City, Mo., native worked two years in her second stint at Progressive Rehabilitation Associates in Iowa City, Iowa, covering local high school athletic events and making weekly school visits to assess and evaluate as well as document injuries. She ran training sessions for area businesses and factories, educating on employee triage for industrial settings, and wrote essential function profiles for statewide businesses.

Polizzi spent one year as Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill., covering men’s and women’s cross country and track and field along with men’s and women’s tennis. She was in charge of care and prevention, assessment, evaluation and rehabilitation of injuries as well as documenting injuries and treatment.

Campbell joins athletic training staff at Cumberland

Cumberland University Director of Athletics Ron Pavan announced the hiring of Solomon Campbell as the department’s newest full-time athletic trainer, effective immediately.

Campbell joins a staff that includes Head Athletic Trainer James Meadows and Assistant Trainer LaKeisha Fair as well as four graduate assistants for 17 sports at CU. Katie Arnold and Megan Bynum work exclusively on the academic side of the Athletic Training Education Program at Cumberland.

Campbell comes to CU after spending the last two years as a graduate assistant at Middle Tennessee, working primarily with the Blue Raider football team. He collaborated with the head athletic trainer and assistant athletic trainer to oversee the treatment and rehabilitation of all injuries and surgeries, conducted evaluations on-and-off the field during games and practices, and created rehabilitation protocols for long and short-term injuries and surgeries.

He spent one year at the University of Buffalo, assisting with football in the fall and men’s and women’s track and field in the winter and spring, making decisions regarding treatment, evaluation and preventative measures for student-athletes.

Campbell also worked one summer as an intern with the Buffalo Bills, assisting with treatment, taping, bracing and field set-up as well as working and coordinating with the strength and conditioning department during training camp.

He graduated from Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y., working with men’s basketball and softball one year and men’s soccer and women’s lacrosse in his second year with the Golden Griffins. He assisted with stretching, taping, bracing and rehabilitation and made decisions regarding treatment for student-athletes.

Campbell received his bachelor’s in Athletic Training with a minor in Health and Human Performance from Canisius in May 2013 and earned his master’s in Exercise Science from Middle Tennessee in May 2015.
