Lauren Haines takes over at Gladwin High School

A new face is leading the athletic office at Gladwin High School. Lauren Haines, a Midland native, is here to serve as not only the athletic director but also the schools athletic trainer. By day she handles the all business, office work, and all the setup it takes to get the sports games up and running. By night she becomes the trainer, starting off by getting the home teams setup and then traveling to any of the away games.

Laruen grew up in Midland and played volleyball, soccer, and basketball before graduating from Midland High. She then continued her soccer career while attending Alma College and earned her undergraduate degree in athletic training. Afterwards she went on and completed her Master’s in sports administration from CMU.

She heard about the position through Super Intendant Seebeck and saw an opportunity to do her main goal, athletic directing, and still be able to do athletic training. The biggest challenge that comes with that is trying to be everywhere at once. Because she can’t be everywhere at once she advises coaches and other personnel to make sure their knowledge is up to date when it comes to handling sports injuries. Recently Lauren attended the REACT workshop at Mid-Michigan health in Midland. She says this is a great training seminar to help people work together in teams in order to properly handle any situation that can arise. The small things coaches can do are just as important as the job of other medical professionals who have not yet had a chance to reach the field. She hopes in the future local coaches will consider attending such an event.

Since starting her career her in Gladwin Lauren says, “I can already tell that the community here in Gladwin is awesome. After attending my first few home events I was able to notice all of the community that comes to help out. I was a little nervous before the first home game, but everyone showed up to help make sure the games were a success.”

Lauren says she is having a lot of fun taking over the reigns as the director and her main goal is to be able to make the most efficient use of her time that she can. If you haven’t had a chance to meet her yet it is not hard to spot her on the sidelines of Gladwin games, usually near the golf cart that carries all her supplies.
