South Dakota assistant athletic director for sports medicine Bruce Fischbach has promoted Ian Lackey to athletic trainer for the football and track and field programs.

Lackey spent the past two years as a graduate assistant at South Dakota working with the football, swimming & diving, track & field and women’s soccer programs. Lackey completed his master’s degree in kinesiology and sport science with a concentration in exercise science in May. His master’s thesis focused on use of the King-Devick concussion screening tool in NCAA Division I collegiate football players.

A 2014 graduate of Dakota Wesleyan University, Lackey has been working in athletic training rooms since 2011. He worked with DWU’s wrestling, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and football programs as an undergraduate. Additionally, he worked with a high school volleyball player in the spring of 2012 on jumping mechanics, lower body strengthening and injury evaluation. Lackey also had a semester of experience working with the rehabilitation program for the Tigers.

Lackey graduated with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training. During his four years on campus, he played football, was a member of the campus athletic training club and participated in several on- and off-campus service projects.
