University of Maine at Farmington Director of Athletics, Fitness, and Recreation Julie Davis is pleased to announce the hiring of Kaitlyn Deering as the next assistant athletic trainer.

Deering joins the UMF Athletic Training team after completing her master’s degree in sports management from Adams State University in May of 2016.

As a graduate assistant certified athletic trainer at Adams State, Deering covered the women’s soccer, volleyball, and basketball teams. She designed rehabilitation programs tailored to every athlete’s individual needs and treated both acute and chronic injuries. She created rehabilitation programs for numerous injuries with an emphasis placed on postural correction.

For the Grizzlies’ women’s basketball teams, she developed comprehensive rehabilitation programs for student athletes and responsible for the welfare of the junior varsity and varsity women’s basketball teams.

As an athletic training student at Plymouth State University, she provided assistance with the football, men’s ice hockey, men’s lacrosse, and athletic training clinic. She treated acute and chronic injuries with therapeutic modalities, therapeutic exercise, taping, and bracing. Deering managed the pre-surgery and post-surgery treatment of out-of-season athletes.

With the Panther football team, she entrusted with the care of the offensive linemen for the duration of the season and created rehabilitation, strengthening and core stabilization programs.

As a student-athlete, Deering nearly shot 40 percent from the floor as a senior for the Plymouth State women’s basketball team. In her final season in green and white, she averaged 10.5 points and 7 rebounds per game in Panther victories.

Deering graduated from Plymouth State in 2014 with her bachelor’s degree in athletic training.
