Mount Holyoke College Director of Athletics Lori Hendricks has announced the hiring of Kyra Busque as assistant athletic trainer. A former athletic trainer at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she will work alongside head athletic trainer Ellen Perrella.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Mount Holyoke College community and hope to make a lasting impact,” said Busque. “Working with the student-athletes, Ellen and the incredible faculty and staff here is a wonderful opportunity.”

“We are excited to welcome Kyra to the Lyons Athletic Training Staff,” said Perrella. “She has a solid education and background in athletic training and a clear understanding of the principals involved in healthcare. Her expertise, dedication and commitment will serve our athletic community well.”

Busque comes to Mount Holyoke after serving the past two years as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at UNC. In that role, she provided home game coverage for the Tar Heels’ women’s soccer and women’s tennis programs. She performed injury care management and rehabilitation, as well as utilization of the Fusionetics Sport Science software. She also created and implemented rehabilitation programs and did documented evaluations, treatments and referrals on a daily basis.

Additionally, Busque was a member of the Campus Health Physical Therapy staff, working directly with members of the general student body who were referred. She worked under the direction of a staff athletic/physical trainer, performing weekly and bi-weekly evaluations, treatments and rehabilitation.

Busque also provided periodic coverage of all intramural and club sports during weeknight rotationals, as well as weekly coverage of “walk-in” appointments through the sports medicine center. Additionally, she spend two years as a lifetime fitness instructor, along with serving as a clinical preceptor for several Tar Heels programs.

During the summer of 2015, and the spring of 2016, Busque also served as the head of the medical staff for the UNC Women’s Soccer Camp. She organized all medical coverage for the event, maintained proper inventory of all supplies, while also supervising the certified Athletic Trainers and ATC students working the camps.

Prior to her time at UNC, Busque served as an Athletic Training student at the University of Connecticut for two years. She worked with the football, women’s ice hockey, field hockey and volleyball as an undergraduate with the Huskies. She also worked off-campus at Trinity College and Norwich Free Academy. Among her duties included assisting with evaluations, treatments and rehabilitation.

Busque also worked for a number of different organizations in the Connecticut area, including a summer as an Athletic Training intern with the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League, the Jim Calhoun Youth Basketball Camp and the Nayden Rehabilitation Clinic.

A member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, Busque graduated from North Carolina in 2016 with her Master of Arts in Exercise and Sport Science. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Athletic Training from the University of Connecticut in 2014.
