Kenneth A. Woodard Jr. has been named assistant athletics trainer at Lamar University, Director of Athletics Jason Henderson announced Tuesday. He will serve as trainer for the men’s basketball team.
Woodard, who has worked with teams in the National Football League and NFL Europe, comes to LU from Hopkinsville High School in Hopkinsville, Ky., where he served as the head athletic trainer since March 2012. Prior to his time in Hopkinsville, he was the head athletics trainer for men’s basketball at the University of South Florida.
“I am very excited to have KJ join our athletics training staff,” head athletics trainer Joshua Yonker said. “He brings a variety of experience, including time in the NFL and NCAA Division I men’s basketball, which will enable us to continue providing the highest quality of health care for Lamar University student-athletes. I feel that we have made a very strong addition to our staff, and we are looking forward to working with KJ.”
A 2003 graduate of Arkansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training, Woodard earned a Master of Science degree in exercise, fitness and health promotions from George Mason University in 2005.
After earning his master’s degree at George Mason, Woodard served as interim head athletics trainer at Grambling State University for one year before serving as an intern on the training staff of the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals. Woodard also spent more than three years on the staff of Baptist Sports Medicine in Nashville, Tenn., providing training services to the Tennessee Titans of the NFL.
Woodard has certifications from the National Athletic Training Association Board of Certification and the National Academy of Sports Medicine among others.
