Two days after the Los Angeles Chargers made their first (new) hometown hire in naming Josh Rupprecht vice president of public relations, the team continued to solidify its stewardship by promoting assistant athletic trainer Damon Mitchell to the head athletic trainer position.

Among the first to report the news was ESPN’s Eric Williams, who also explained last season’s head trainer James Collins will remain with the team — but in a different role.

Collins has 26 years of experience, and while his new role has yet to be released, he should prove as a continued asset for the Bolts.

Meanwhile, Mitchell has been with the Chargers since 2001 after beginning his career as an intern with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1998.
