CONNELY NAMED ASSISTANT ATHLETIC TRAINER AT WIDENER

Tamaqua native and Marian Catholic graduate Rachel Connely was named the assistant athletic trainer at Widener University by head trainer A.J. Duffy III.

Prior to accepting the position at Widener, Connely served in the same role at Neumann University. At Neumann, Connely was responsible for overseeing the women’s volleyball, women’s basketball and men’s lacrosse programs while also maintaining a working relationship with NovaCare physical therapists and Rothman Institute physicians.

Connely was a standout on the basketball court in her time at Marian, where she was named the state and regional player of the year by several organizations.

She would go on to play four years of basketball and get her undergraduate degree at James Madison from 2008-12 before achieving a master’s in clinical athletic training from Bloomsburg in 2013.

Connely began her position at Widener earlier this month according to a press release from the university.
