Athletic trainers with Regional Sports Medicine in Spearfish donated $5,612 to Spearfish Regional Hospital to fund oncology training and resources which will benefit patients with cancer, Tuesday, Dec. 1.
Proceeds were raised through donations to the Pink Tape Against Cancer fundraisers, which took place at high school sporting events in Belle Fourche, Lead-Deadwood and Spearfish, as well as in Hulett, Sundance and Upton, Wyo., during October.
Donations were generated by providing athletes the opportunity to choose pink tape for their pregame wraps, and additional events conducted by the athletic trainers, student athletes and student councils.
“Again this year all the funds raised will stay in the Northern Hills,” said Kristy Eastman, supervising athletic trainer for Regional Sports Medicine. “The participants in Pink Tape Against Cancer are very devoted to the program and the money raised will go back into their communities.”
In the past seven years, the Pink Tape Against Cancer drive has generated more than $37,000 for cancer research and training.
The event is coordinated annually by Eastman and athletic trainers Stephanie Gallagher, Shawn Mechling and Sonnie Neiman.
