Saginaw Valley State University has announced the promotion of Megan Van Vliet to the position of Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Cardinals. The announcement was made official by SVSU Assistant Athletic Director / Director of Sports Medicine Jeremy Glaser and Director of Athletics Mike Watson.

“It is with great pleasure that the SVSU Sports Medicine Department and SVSU Athletic Department promote Megan to the position of Assistant Athletic Trainer,” stated Glaser. “Megan has been a great asset to the Athletic Training Staff over the past year and a half. I am confident that she will thrive in her new role as we continue to increase the services available and the overall well-being of our SVSU student-athletes.”

Van Vliet, who was in her second academic season as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the Cardinals, worked mainly with the SVSU cross country, track & field and football teams. In her new role, she will continue to work with the cross country, track and field and football teams.

Megan joined the SVSU Athletic Training Staff as a graduate assistant in August of 2015. She came to Saginaw Valley after serving as an Intern / Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Findlay from August 2014 to May 2015.

A native of Cass City, Michigan, Van Vliet graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2014 and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Training. During the summer of 2014, Van Vliet completed an athletic training internship with North Carolina State University’s Football team.

Van Vliet has been a BOC certified athletic trainer since 2014. She holds memberships in the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, Great Lakes Athletic Trainers’ Association and the Michigan Athletic Trainers’ Society.

Along with Van Vliet’s promotion, there were a couple of title changes in the Athletic Training Staff. Glaser is now the Assistant Athletic Director / Director of Sports Medicine and Assistant Athletic Trainer Chris Camburn is now the Associate Head Athletic Trainer.

Glaser has been instrumental in securing additional services for the SVSU student-athletes, including securing chiropractic, nutritional and mental health services outside of the team doctors that work with the Cardinal student-athletes.

Camburn, who has been a member of the athletic training staff at Saginaw Valley since 2007, will continue to work with the football and golf programs while taking on more leadership duties over the staff.
