Trek Schuler South Atlantic League Athletic Trainer of the Year

When it comes to icing sore elbows and treating tight hamstrings, a longtime Orioles farm system trainer is one of the best.

The Delmarva Shorebirds, Class-A affiliate of theBaltimore Orioles, announced that team athletic trainer Trek Schuler has been selected as the 2015 South Atlantic League Athletic Trainer of the Year.

Schuler, who is in his 16th season with the Orioles organization, was selected by fellow trainers in the SAL to receive the award. The selection earns him a nomination to receive the Minor League Athletic Trainer of the Year award, which will be given out by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society at the 2015 Winter Meetings in Nashville.

This is the second time Schuler has received a league award, as he was named Carolina League Trainer of the Year in 2006 while working with the Frederick Keys.

The 2015 season marked Schuler’s second consecutive year working with Delmarva. He also served as Shorebirds athletic trainer from 2001 to 2003. He has also spent time working with the Gulf Coast League Orioles (2000), Frederick Keys (2004-08) andAberdeen IronBirds (2009-13). Prior to joining the Orioles, Schuler served as athletic trainer for Sioux Valley Hospital in South Dakota and for the Thunder Bay (CN) Whiskey Jacks of the independent Northern League.

A native of Grand Forks, N.D. and a resident of Berlin, Md., Schuler received his BS degree in Physical Education from Mankato State in 1991 before earning his Master of Science degree in Kinesiology from the University of North Dakota in 1998.
