Little Rock School District Expanding Athletic training services

Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the Little Rock School District are expanding their partnership to provide more on-site athletic training services, the organizations said Wednesday.

Currently, the student-athlete services are offered at Little Rock Central High School, but they will now be provided at all middle school and high school football games and practices.

Little Rock School District athletic director John Daniels said the expanded partnership adds a “fundamental layer of protection” for student-athletes at the district’s middle and high schools.

“Having certified athletic trainers housed in our five high schools will allow us to have a coordinated and efficient way to ensure that our student-athletes get appropriate medical care,” Daniels said.

Children’s Hospital Sports Medicine Department athletic trainers will be on the field during games and practices at the district’s middle and high schools to provide medical services at football and basketball games, as well as other home events such as wrestling, soccer and baseball.

David Berry, senior vice president and chief operating officer at Children’s, said in a statement, “By having our athletic trainers on the football field, the players will have access to excellent medical services that aim not only to treat injuries sustained during play, but to also provide education to teams to help prevent injuries from ever happening.”
