Wisconsin Students Promote Brain Safety

UW-Madison’s  group has spent the month of October telling its story of education and advocacy in a unique way.

ATSBS is part of the Rennie’s Corner “pop-up” gallery, event and retail space located in the Town Center of the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery. Following an art gallery model, Rennie’s Corner offers a selection of products developed by alumni, students, faculty and staff curated around a central theme. The store’s current theme is: Badger Red. Rennie’s provides the space, and storytellers and vendors provide the stories and products to achieve a third space environment.

Helmets are Sexy stickers

The Athletic Training Students for Brain Safety group has been promoting brain safety in the community and is selling “Helmets are Sexy” stickers. Students with the Department of Kinesiology’s Athletic Training Program formed ATSBS in an effort to better educate the campus and surrounding communities about concussions. This group is an extension of the Association of Athletic Training Students (AATS).

“It is wonderful to see the AT Students for Brain Safety joining forces with other student groups to tell their story in a unique way at a fabulous campus location like WID,” says AT Program Director Andrew Winterstein.

“Rennie’s Corner was a cool way to reach out to a population who we otherwise may not have reached,” said ATSBS member Bailey Lanser.  “It was a nice way to tell the ATSBS story and promote an understanding of brain injuries in a more relaxed environment.”
