Kean Students Volunteer with Special olympics

Kean University’s Athletic Training students volunteered their time to provide medical coverage at the 2015 Shriver Cup Unified Soccer Championship Tournament this Sunday at Players Development Academy in Somerset, NJ.

A dozen of Kean’s  junior and senior athletic training students spent the day taking care of athletes and cheering on competition of unified teams participating in the annual event.

Ten colleges and seven high schools from around the state competed to become this year’s High School and College Shriver Cup Champions. The five-on-five soccer tournament featured teams comprised of athletes both with and without disabilities competing and playing together.

PLAY UNIFIED. LIVE UNIFIED.  Special Olympics Unified Sports joins people with and without intellectual disabilities together as teammates, each one a meaningful and equal part of the team. It is inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding. Unified Sports is one component of the broader Unified Strategy for Schools, in which Special Olympics, with the support of the US Department of Education, partners with schools to promote inclusion, leadership and acceptance of all.
