Athletic Trainers Join Ferrum Staff

Director of Athletics Abe Naff has announced the hiring of three new Assistant Athletic Trainers; Nicholas Erdman, Zach Johnson and Caitlin Keroack. The trio will be part of Ferrum’s staff of five professionals, serving over 500 student-athletes across 20 varsity teams and three club programs.

Erdman, Johnson and Keroack will work under Head Athletic Trainer John Zubal, now in his second year at the helm of Ferrum’s sports medicine program. Rounding out the staff is Assistant Athletic Trainer Caitlyn Richbourg, also in her second year at Ferrum.

Erdman comes to Ferrum from Shenandoah University, where he served as Athletic Training Student while pursuing his master’s degree. While there, he worked with Shepherd University, Bucknell University, Chantilly High School and John Handley High School Erdman earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Shenandoah in 2012 and 2015, respectively. As a football player for the Hornets, Erdman was an Academic All-American first team selection.

Johnson comes to Ferrum from Lindsey Wilson College, where he served as Assistant Athletic Trainer last year. Prior to that, he spent a year as a Grad Assistant Athletic Trainer at Virginia Military Institute. Johnson earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Hope College in 2013, where he also served as a Student Athletic Trainer. He then earned his Master of Education degree from the University of Virginia in 2014.

Keroack comes to Ferrum from Illinois State University, where she worked two years with the softball program. Prior to that, she spent a year at University of Richmond, where she worked with men’s and women’s track & field and with spring football. Keroack spent three years as a Student Athletic Trainer at Longwood University while working on her Bachelor of Science degree, which she earned in 2012. She went on to earn her Master of Science degree from Illinois State in 2015.
