TCU Adds Wang To Sports Medicine Staff

The TCU men’s basketball program announced the addition of NBA World Champion JoHan Wang to its support staff Monday.

Wang, an Associate Director of Sports Medicine, comes to Fort Worth after spending four seasons with the Golden State Warriors, including two years as the team’s Head Athletic Trainer. With the Warriors, Wang was responsible for the overall healthcare of the athletes, which included prevention, emergency care, evaluation, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. He also served as an assistant coach/Director of Athletic Performance for two seasons while at Golden State.

Prior to joining the Warriors, Wang spent eight seasons as an associate athletic trainer for the Los Angeles Clippers. During his final seven seasons in Los Angeles, he also held the additional title of associate strength and conditioning coach.

On the collegiate level, Wang’s extensive resume includes two years at Stanford University, where he served as the Associate Director of Athletic Training from 2001-03. He was named Director of Athletic Training Services in the summer of 2003. Wang also served as a volunteer athletic trainer at the United States Olympic Training Center in 2005.

In addition, he was selected as one of the athletic trainers for the 2010 NBA All-Star Game. Wang also worked with the German National Men’s Basketball Team leading up to the 2008 Olympics.

A certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS*D) and Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), Wang is a certified Sports Nutrition Specialist (SNS). He is also an active member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) and National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Additionally, Wang is certified as a Performance Enhancement Specialist and Corrective Exercise Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).

Wang earned his Bachelor of Science degree from UC Davis and his Master of Science degree from Boise State University. Wang served as an assistant athletic trainer at Boise State University from 1999-2001, and was an intern athletic trainer for the Warriors in 2001.
