Micah Hiett hired at Immanuel High School

Micah Hiett always wanted to come back to Immanuel High School and the Reedley community to make a difference. Now he has that opportunity. This summer, he was named the new athletic trainer at Immanuel High School.

“It has only just hit me that I am here at Immanuel,” Hiett said. “I am blessed and excited to be back as part of the Immanuel family.”

Hiett, a 2008 graduate of Immanuel High,  spent the last two years as the athletic trainer for Dinuba High School. At Dinuba, Hiett’s full-time job was athletic trainer. While he loved it, Hiett said something was missing. He wanted the chance to get into the classroom and help the younger generation fall in love with the medical field. That is what the position at Immanuel offered.

“For long term reasons, I wanted to continue to teach in the classroom. I want to work towards being an administrator. To do that, I feel like I need some experience in the classroom,” Hiett said. “I have experience and my undergraduate degree is in sports medicine. I am hoping to merge those two and build a sports medicine program here at Immanuel.”

Hiett teaches six classes at Immanuel, two eighth- grade science classes, two health classes and two freshman science classes.
After graduating from Immanuel, Hiett attended Tabor College in Kansas where he continued his education.

Hiett took a sports medicine class his senior year at Immanuel, which got him  interested in continuing learning about that field in college.

Hiett came back to the Valley in 2012 after graduating from Tabor College.  He  always dreamt of returning to Immanuel, where he played basketball, football, and swimming and tried out for the golf team.

“In the back of my mind I thought it be fun to someday end up back here. After moving back to the area, my wife and I settled in  Reedley. I talked to Ryan Wood, Immanuel Superintendent, Aaron Henderson, Immanuel athletics director, and Phil Goertzen, Immanuel High principal, and we kind of came to an agreement. We need an athletic trainer. We need somebody who can build a program. It happened to be that I am alumni, I love Immanuel and I am very interested in giving back to both the Reedley and the Immanuel community,” Hiett said.

Hiett is responsible for all the athletes at Immanuel. He will be at every home athletic event.

Micah has an undergraduate degree in  athletic traning from the Certified Athletics Trainers Association (CATA), where he went through theeducation training program. During his time at Dinuba, he passed his Board of Certification test in athletics training that is given by the National Athletic Training Association. This makes him a certified athletic trainer.

Hiett also received his CTE credential in health, science and medical technology from Fresno Pacific University. Hiett works with the American Red Cross training first responders, teaching them CPR and first aid. He recently did training for the coaches at Immanuel and Kingsburg High Schools.

Hiett and his wife, Leanne, live in Reedley near Palm Village.

Immanuel Athletics Director Henderson believes that Hiett is an integral part of Immanuel High School.

“We are thrilled to welcome Micah back to Immanuel. He brings a wealth of knowledge in the area of sports medicine and is well connected in the local communities,”
