The Howard Payne athletic department today announced the hiring of Rachel Simpson as an assistant athletic trainer.
Rachel Simpson comes to Howard Payne from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in La Crosse, WI where she served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer from August 2013 – May 2015.
“It is great to have her as a part of the HPU athletic training staff,” said Gene Kirkpatrick, HPU head athletic trainer. “She is a great fit for the school and will serve the athletes well.”
At Wisconsin-La Crosse, Rachel provided athletic training coverage and supervision for NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball, Baseball, Softball, and Men’s & Women’s Track & Field including practice and event coverage. There she received a Masters of Science with an emphasis in Applied Sport Science in May 2015.
While at Wisconsin-La Crosse, she also worked a graduate internship in sports physical therapy with Gundersen Health System in Onalaska, WI.
Before graduate work, she attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas where she received in May of 2013 a Bachelor of Behavioral Science majoring in Athletic Training.
She is a Certified Athletic Trainer with the Board of Certification, a Licensed Athletic Trainer with the State of Texas and Wisconsin, and has a certification for CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers/ Health Care Providers by the American Red Cross.
Rachel is also a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers’ Association and the Southwest Athletic Trainers’ Association.
